Hi, I’m Christine

I’m a regular on the Vancouver craft scene, I used to be a regular on the local music scene and I have more retail & sales background than I’d care to admit to. After the pandemic I felt a need to change gears and I’ve decided to put my own handmade business on autopilot and merge my previous backgrounds into The Local Scene.

My goal is to create a vibrant community space by putting together a year’s worth of markets to help our local artists, artisans and performers find a space to be seen in the local community. I want to help our local artists find a clientbase/fanbase in the Cambie/Broadway area while reinvigorating the plaza and making it more of a community hub.

For 2023 I’ve been working on putting together monthly events in The Helena Gutteridge Plaza at Vancouver City Hall. The surrounding neighborhood is character homes and apartments and it’s right behind Broadway/City Hall skytrain station adjacent to the Health district which is home to VGH and The BC Cancer Agency. The neighborhood is a good mix of professionals, renters and home owners. The surrounding park space around the plaza has a community garden and many residents like to cut through the space from the skytrain to the surrounding neighborhood. We’re also across the street from City Square Mall.

My side quest on this new adventure is to maybe get the plaza painted in a cool 3D design as part of MuralFest so when people book the plaza, they can take advantage of the mural for sweet instagram worthy shots of them getting married over a “waterfall” or “cliff” or something.

The Local Scene acknowledges that it is situated on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
